One bank, five filing sources

A bank's information returns come from every line of business, and in January they all have to leave the building as one clean filing.

The business lineThe formsWhere the data lives
Deposit accounts: interest on checking, savings, money market, and CDs, plus account-opening bonuses1099-INTCore banking system
Lending: serviced mortgages, auto loans, charge-offs and repossessions1098, 1098-VLI, 1099-C, 1099-ACore and servicing systems
Custodial programs: IRAs and HSAs1099-R, 5498, 1099-SA, 5498-SACore or trust system
Trust and wealth: personal trust, agency, and investment accounts1099-INT, 1099-DIV, 1099-BTrust accounting system
Accounts payable: vendors, contractors, attorneys1099-NEC, 1099-MISCAP or ERP system

A few edges worth stating plainly. Account-opening and deposit bonuses are interest on 1099-INT; referral payments outside the account relationship land on 1099-MISC. Deposit interest paid to nonresident alien account holders who are residents of countries on the IRS reporting list goes on Form 1042-S, which is supported as well. And the rest of the series, from 1099-DIV to the newest forms, files through the same pipeline.

Your core's year-end job was built for FIRE

The bank year-end has looked the same for decades. The core runs its year-end cycle. The cycle writes an IRS Publication 1220 file. Someone signs into the FIRE portal, uploads it, and saves the receipt. The trust department's file follows its own path, and AP's 1099-NEC run follows a third.

That routine is ending. FIRE's last filing day is November 19, 2026, at 3 p.m. ET, and after January 1, 2027 IRIS will be the only IRS e-file system for information returns, including corrections and prior-year filings (IRS FIRE page).

Here is the part that matters: the file your core produces does not have to change. The system that accepts it does. FIRE took fixed-width Pub 1220 records. IRIS takes XML and validates every record at intake.

Start from the file your core already writes

Your year-end cycle is not wasted work. Morado ingests the Publication 1220 file your core already produces and transmits it through IRIS A2A.

Your platformWhat you exportWhat Morado does with it

CSI, COCCPub 1220 IRS fileSame pipeline
Trust accounting, servicing, and AP systemsPub 1220 file, XLSX, or CSVMapped with your team's review, then the same pipeline

If your core writes a Publication 1220 file, Morado ingests it. No re-keying, no vendor template, no rebuild of the year-end cycle your team already trusts. Spreadsheet and CSV exports work the same way: your team reviews and confirms every mapping before anything transmits.

Every charter, one filing season

Bank holding companies file under every charter's EIN, and acquisitions add banks that still run on the core they arrived with. Year-end then means multiple files, in multiple layouts, feeding one filing obligation.

Morado consolidates them. Multi-entity filing is fully supported: every charter in the group files in one season through one pipeline, with per-payer configuration and per-batch audit artifacts. An acquired bank mid-conversion is just another source file, not a separate project.

What filing through IRIS yourself would take

IRIS is not FIRE with a new login. Filing through the IRIS A2A channel directly means your bank builds and maintains:

  • An IRIS TCC. FIRE TCCs do not carry over. An IRIS TCC takes up to 45 days.
  • ID.me identity proofing for each responsible official on the application. Individual staff members verify their personal identity through a third-party service.
  • X.509 certificates and JWKS key hosting for A2A authentication.
  • OAuth2 and mTLS connectivity to the IRS transmission endpoint.
  • The IRIS XML schema. Fixed-width Pub 1220 records become nested XML, and the IRS publishes a new schema version every year.
  • ATS testing. The IRS assurance testing cycle, repeated annually before production filing.

Each of those is an IT project, a security review, or a vendor-management exercise. Several are all three.

The free alternative is the IRIS Taxpayer Portal, which caps CSV uploads at 250 records per file (PY2026), with corrections keyed manually. Against a deposit portfolio's 50,000 1099-INTs, that is 200 uploads every January.

Morado is the third path. You file under Morado's production transmitter TCC. You skip: the TCC application · ID.me proofing · X.509/JWKS cert setup · annual ATS testing. Nobody on your staff proofs their identity through ID.me, hosts a certificate, or sits an IRS testing cycle.

Replacing the software or service you file with today

Banks reach January in one of three postures: an in-house process built on the bank's own FIRE TCC and the core's year-end file, a desktop package like 1099 Pro or Account Ability driving a FIRE upload, or a per-form filing service.

Morado replaces all three head-on, end to end: ingestion, validation, IRS transmission, corrections, recipient copies, and the audit trail, in one pipeline your team operates. Banks that have filed their own returns for decades keep exactly that control; the credentialing burden moves to Morado. If you file on your own FIRE TCC today, your file stays the same. White-glove migration is included when you file with Morado.

Validation before anything transmits

FIRE checked file format. IRIS checks the contents of every record and rejects at intake.

Morado runs the same rules first, before the IRS sees anything. Every batch is validated against the IRS schema (TIN formatting, address character classes, dollar amount precision) and the IRIS business rules (recipient account uniqueness, payee name controls, transmitter and issuer separation), with real-time TIN validation against IRS records during processing. Issues surface in a report your team can open in Excel, fix at the source, and re-run.

Bank files carry exactly the history where problems hide: accounts opened decades before anyone validated a TIN, estates and joint-owner changes, trust accounts titled three different ways across three systems. Preflight surfaces those issues in your office in December, not as IRS rejections or CP2100 B-notices later.

Corrections, fully in-house

Bank corrections have their own calendar. Interest reallocated after year-end. An IRA recharacterization that arrives in March. A customer disputes a 1099-C and the workout officer agrees. A trust account's income recharacterized after the tax package went out.

Morado files corrections through the same IRIS A2A pipeline as originals, with the same validation and the same audit artifacts. Fix the record, and Morado transmits the correction. No separate portal, no manual re-keying.

New for tax year 2026: Form 1098-VLI on the auto portfolio

The newest information return lands on auto lending, including indirect, dealer-originated paper. Form 1098-VLI (Vehicle Loan Interest Statement) is required beginning with calendar year 2026 interest: $600 or more of interest on a qualifying passenger vehicle loan means you file, with borrower copies due by January 31, 2027.

The form asks for data most servicing systems do not track at year-end: the 17-character VIN, US final assembly status, and the SPVL allocation on mixed-purpose loans. Morado supports 1098-VLI in the same pipeline as the 1099 series, from servicing export to IRS submission to borrower copy.

Security your examiners have already scoped

A bank's filing data is customer nonpublic personal information under GLBA, and a filing vendor is a third-party relationship your program has to stand behind: the 2023 Interagency Guidance on Third-Party Relationships and the FFIEC handbooks set the due-diligence bar, and the OCC, FDIC, Federal Reserve, or your state examiner will walk the file.

Morado runs two ways, so where the data lives is your call.

BYOC (bring your own cloud). Morado deploys inside your own cloud environment. Your data never leaves your cloud. For your security review, the data-flow diagram ends at the perimeter your examiners already scoped.

Managed. A dedicated, isolated environment operated by Morado.

Both carry the same audit spine. Per batch, six artifacts: the original workbook, canonical JSON, payer configuration, transmitted XML, the IRS submission acknowledgment, and the IRS status response, retained at a stable path. Per action, a user-level trail: who uploaded, who approved, who transmitted, and when, with self-serve export and role-based separation of who can prepare, approve, and transmit. Exam ready, internal audit ready, customer dispute ready.

Customer copies, delivered

Every filing generates recipient Copy B PDFs. Morado prints and mails, or delivers through a secure portal, or both. Same pipeline, same audit trail as the IRS side.

State filing pass-through

Most states still accept Publication 1220 format for state information return filings while the IRS moves to IRIS XML. Morado files through the Combined Federal/State Filing (CF/SF) program where applicable and exports state-ready Pub 1220 files for direct filing outside it. One upload, both formats.

Proof at production volume

Morado's production track record at six-figure, single-season volume is documented end to end in the casino case study: the preflight findings, the batch cadence, the IRS acknowledgments.

How pricing works

Seasonal pricing by volume tier, quoted up front. You know the season's cost before you file, which is the number a budget cycle needs.

Who Morado works for

  • Community banks filing 1099-INT across every interest-bearing account
  • Regional banks with deposit, mortgage, auto, and trust lines under one roof
  • Multi-bank holding companies filing for every charter in one season
  • Bank trust departments and trust companies filing 1099-INT, 1099-DIV, and 1099-B from the trust accounting system
  • Banks servicing their own mortgage and auto portfolios, filing 1098 and 1098-VLI
  • Banks with their own FIRE TCC today whose credential does not carry over to IRIS

How it works

  1. Upload your data. The Pub 1220 file from your core's year-end cycle, the trust system's export, servicing and AP files, XLSX or CSV.
  2. Confirm the mappings. Morado proposes the mapping; your team reviews, confirms, or overrides before anything moves.
  3. Review the preflight report. Every schema and business rule issue, fixable in Excel, before transmission.
  4. Morado transmits under its production TCC. Directly to the IRS through IRIS A2A over mTLS, for every charter's EIN.
  5. Artifacts land in your audit trail. Acknowledgments, status responses, and customer copies, retained at a stable path.

Frequently asked questions

Which forms do banks file through IRIS? The bank stack spans five business lines: 1099-INT from deposit accounts, 1098, 1098-VLI, 1099-C, and 1099-A from lending, 1099-R and 5498 from IRA custodianship plus 1099-SA and 5498-SA from HSA programs, 1099-INT, 1099-DIV, and 1099-B from trust and wealth, and 1099-NEC and 1099-MISC from accounts payable. Morado supports the full information return series, with 1042-S for nonresident alien deposit interest as well.

Can we keep filing in-house after FIRE retires? Yes. FIRE's last filing day is November 19, 2026, and after January 1, 2027 IRIS will be the only IRS e-file system for information returns. Morado transmits your returns directly to the IRS through IRIS A2A under its own production TCC, so your team keeps the filing function, the files, and the process in-house.

Can Morado ingest our core's Pub 1220 file? Yes. If your core writes a Publication 1220 file (Fiserv Premier, Precision, Signature, or Cleartouch, Jack Henry SilverLake, CIF 20/20, or Core Director, FIS IBS, Horizon, or Hogan, CSI, COCC, or any other), Morado ingests it directly, validates it against the IRIS rules, and transmits it through IRIS A2A. XLSX and CSV exports work too, with mappings your team reviews and confirms.

Can a multi-bank holding company file for all of its charters? Yes, fully supported. Each charter files under its own EIN, and Morado handles multiple payers in one filing season through one pipeline, with per-payer configuration and per-batch audit artifacts. Acquired banks still running on their previous core are just another source file in the same season.

We file on our own FIRE TCC today. Does it carry over to IRIS? No. FIRE TCCs do not carry over, and a new IRIS TCC application takes up to 45 days plus ID.me proofing for each responsible official. Filing under Morado's TCC removes that entire track.

Do our staff need ID.me accounts to file through Morado? No. You file under Morado's production transmitter TCC. You skip: the TCC application · ID.me proofing · X.509/JWKS cert setup · annual ATS testing. Nobody on your staff verifies their identity through ID.me or manages IRS credentials.

Does Morado handle our trust department's filings? Yes. Trust and wealth accounts generate 1099-INT, 1099-DIV, and 1099-B obligations out of the trust accounting system, separate from the core's deposit-side file. Morado ingests the trust system's year-end export alongside the core's Pub 1220 file and files everything through the same IRIS A2A pipeline, in one season.

Do you support HSA forms (1099-SA and 5498-SA)? Yes. Banks acting as HSA custodians file 1099-SA for distributions and 5498-SA for contributions, and both are supported as part of Morado's full information return series coverage, through the same ingestion, validation, and transmission pipeline as the rest of your filing.

What about Form 1098-VLI on our auto portfolio? Morado supports 1098-VLI in the same pipeline as the 1099 series: servicing export in, validation, IRS submission through IRIS, borrower Copy B out. First mandatory filings cover calendar year 2026 interest, and the form applies to indirect, dealer-originated paper as well as direct auto loans.

Do you handle 1042-S for nonresident alien deposit interest? Yes. Deposit interest paid to nonresident alien account holders who are residents of countries on the IRS reporting list is reportable on Form 1042-S, and Morado supports it with the same validation and audit discipline as the 1099 series.

How do corrections work after year-end? Corrected returns file through the same IRIS A2A pipeline as originals, with the same validation and audit artifacts. Interest reallocated after year-end, an IRA recharacterization, a disputed 1099-C the workout officer agrees to amend: fix the record, and Morado transmits the correction. No separate portal, no re-keying.

What about state filing? Morado files through the Combined Federal/State Filing (CF/SF) program, so eligible forms reach participating states with your federal filing. For states and forms outside CF/SF, Morado exports state-ready Pub 1220 files for direct filing. One upload covers both.

How does BYOC fit our vendor management program? BYOC deployment runs Morado inside your own cloud environment, so your data never leaves your cloud and the data-flow diagram ends at the perimeter your examiners already scoped. The alternative is a dedicated, isolated environment operated by Morado. Every action is attributed: who uploaded, who approved, who transmitted, and when, with self-serve export for your third-party risk file.

How much volume can Morado handle for a bank? Morado is built for teams filing 1,000 to 1,000,000+ information returns a season. A $1B community bank files tens of thousands of 1099-INTs across its deposit accounts; a multi-bank holding company runs hundreds of thousands across its charters. For the TY2026 season, Morado is on track to file over 2 million information returns across credit unions, universities, public pension systems, and casinos. Read the full transition guide →
